Books and the ledger
Your ledger, bank matching, invoices and the monthly close. Part of Margin Books.
- What does Finance home show? The state of the money in plain words: cash today across your bank accounts and cash in hand, the next statutory deadline, how many entries need you, and this month's money in and out.
- What is the Review inbox?Where entries wait before they reach the books.
- Where is the trial balance?Books → Trial balance: every account with its debits, credits and balance, and the latest entries. It shows whether the books balance.
- Where are the balance sheet and P&L?Books → Statements: the balance sheet, profit and loss, and cash flow, as of any date, straight from the ledger.
- How does bank matching work?In Books → Bank recon, every statement line is matched with what's in the books: a payment run, a bill, a receipt, or a rule (bank charges, for example).
- How do I raise a sales invoice? In Books → Invoices, make a draft: the customer, dates and lines (description, HSN or SAC, quantity, unit, price and GST rate).
- Where do I add customers? In Reference → Customers: each customer's name, billing name, type, GST number and state. Their opening balances go in Customer balances, from a CSV.
- How do I see who owes us money?Books → Receivables shows what each customer owes, by age (0 to 30 days and older). Record a receipt against invoices there; it goes to the Review inbox.
- How do I see what we owe?Books → Payables shows what you owe vendors, by age, and every open bill, and checks the books agree with the bills.
- How do I bring in our opening balances from Tally?Export the trial balance on your start date from Tally as a CSV. In Books → Opening & tie-out, choose the date, upload it and click Preview.
- Can Margin keep track of loans and provisions?Yes. Books → Loans keeps each loan with its schedule, so interest and repayments are proposed each month.
- How do I close the month?Books → Close is the month-end checklist: the Review inbox cleared, bank lines matched, no stale invoice drafts, GST and TDS worked out, payroll in the books, and payables agreeing.
- Where are the PF, ESI, tax and PT rates? In Books → Rule packs: the rates payroll and GST use (PF and its wage ceiling, ESIC and its threshold, the new-regime income tax slabs, and professional tax by state), each pack for a financial year.
