Margin Ledger · Payroll

Payroll that agrees with your books.

Margin works out each person's pay from their salary structure, attendance and leave: gross, PF, ESI, professional tax, TDS and in-hand. You check the run, approve and lock it, and everyone is told their payslip is ready. On the Books + Payroll plan, the salary entries then wait in the Review inbox for your approval.

Attendance flows in from Masthead

Payroll counts unpaid days from the attendance and leave in the same app, which come with Masthead Team: absent days, half days, unpaid leave and days before someone joined. Trace shows the record behind each one. Without Masthead, or to correct a figure, use Override LOP days, with a reason.

  • Absent days, half days and unpaid leave
  • Trace shows the record behind each day
  • Override LOP days, with a reason

PF, ESI and PT worked out

The year's rule pack sets the rates: PF at 12% of basic from the employee and the company, up to the wage ceiling; ESI at 0.75% and 3.25% when gross pay is ₹21,000 a month or less; professional tax by each person's state. From an approved run, download the PF ECR and ESIC files for the portals.

  • PF ECR and ESIC contribution files
  • TDS on salary, new regime by default
  • Payslips to print or download as a PDF
  • A bank file for paying salaries

Salary entries proposed to your books

An approved run proposes two entries in the Review inbox: the salary cost, and paying it from the account salaries are paid from. Payroll in books shows each run's gross, company contributions, TDS and in-hand next to its entries. Reopen a run and what it had posted is reversed, so nothing changes quietly.

  • On the Books + Payroll plan
  • Two entries for each run, approved by you
  • Reopened runs reversed, not overwritten
  • Every change in the run's history

Good questions.

To have unpaid days worked out for you, yes: payroll counts them from the attendance and leave that come with Masthead Team. Without it, set any unpaid days yourself with Override LOP days.

Under the new regime by default: Margin works out each person's yearly tax, takes off the standard deduction, adds cess and spreads the rest over the remaining months. Someone on the old regime, or with other income, can ask for a manual monthly TDS, which an admin, HR or leadership sets.

Yes. Reopen the run, change it and approve it again. Anything it had posted to the books is reversed, and the run's history keeps every change and who made it.

Your bank does. From the run, download the bank transfer file for your bank's website, or the whole run as a CSV.
