How is TDS on salary worked out?

Under the new regime by default: Margin works out each person's yearly tax from their salary, takes off the standard deduction, adds cess, and spreads what's left over the remaining months. Someone who needs a different figure (for example under the old regime, or with other income) can ask for a manual monthly TDS, which an admin, HR or leadership sets.
